Operations to VRMM

Application for Maldives permits take 4-5 days maximum for GA landing permit operations. And 2-3 days for Overflight permit.

  1. Landing Permits and Airport Slot Approvals

    Velana International Airport - VRMM requires airport slots and landing permits prior to landing. Due to congestion and limited aircraft parking available at VRMM advise that checking through the ground handler for airport slot approval during High season (DEC-JAN). By coordinating with Maldives Civil Aviation Authority (MCAA) and Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) we will assist you in obtaining Arrival /Departure and Parking arrangements. A lead time of working 4-5 days is needed to obtain a landing permit through MCAA respectively.

  2. Overflight permits

    Permits for Overflight are required to be applied 2-3 days prior to the operation for private non-revenue and for charter (non-scheduled commercial) flights. At the discretion of MCAA permits on short notice can be processed but a minimum of 01 days is required. Any changes of Departure/Destination point within the same country, a revision of Overfly permit is required. Permit revision are always required for changes on origin/destination, change of schedule and route changes - if outside the +/- 72 hour permit window.

  3. Maldives landing permits

    Maldivian permits are valid for +/- 72 hours and revisions are required for:

    • Change in origin
    • Change in departure/arrival time when outside the 72-hour permit window
    • Change in arrival airport
    • Route changes

    Short notice / Emergency permits can be processed at CAA's discretion. Note that application for a revision will require a 24 hours’ notice prior to Departure. Operating hours of MCAA is 0800-1600 local and is closed on weekends and government holidays including New Years.

  4. Permit documentation

    Along with the permit request you will need to provide the full schedule, purpose of flight, crew/passenger. Number of legs, Aircraft type, Registration, Operator name, Billing address. Note that "to be advised" schedules will not be accepted by MCAA. All other Aircraft documents are not needed for landing permits. However, if MCAA or MACL require other documents from the operator, such documents should be provided by the concerned party.

  5. Cabotage rules is strictly enforced

    CAA rules/restriction on cabotage are strict and closely monitored for both private non - revenue and charter operations to the Maldives. Number of passengers/Crew differs per leg, special permission may be required from CAA with approval/disapproval at their discretion.

  6. CIP/VIP Lounge

    Situated between International Terminal and Domestic terminal at Velana International Airport VIP/CIP Lounge best caters to the GA operations as clients who are booked can enjoy (Free Wi-Fi, Business Center, Rest room, Refreshments, dedicated duty-free area to a smoking lounge and Meet and Greet are for Hotel Representatives) while waiting for Departure and Customs and Immigration procedures are well taken care of.

    Passengers who wish to use the VIP/CIP at VRMM should send us details (Passenger Manifest and Passport details). In order to book the lounge, details should be sent 48-24 hours prior as approval from lounge / Customs and Immigration is required.

  7. Restrictions on NOVEL CORONAVIRUS (COVID-19)

  8. Aircraft Disinsection

    Disinsection of aircraft arriving from countries where yellow fever and malaria is prevalent, and endemic is a must. All International flights operating into Maldives from/via airports situated in countries which have been indicated by World Health Organization WHO as Malaria or Yellow fever endemic, are required to disinsect the aircraft flight deck, cargo compartments, cargo containers etc., using methods approved by WHO. The empty canisters need to be given to the handling agent on arrival (they will hand over this to the Port Health). Failing to do so, will result in a fine of MRF 1000.00 (USD 64.84) from HPA (Health Protection Agency)

  9. VISA / Gendec

    For GA operators, Gendec is a strict requirement, and all details must as per the passport of the Crew/Passenger. (Crew will be stamped in the passport).

    As part of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maldives Immigration is responsible for the Immigration control throughout the Maldives.

    30 days Free Tourist VISA is applicable to all nationalities, upon arrival to the Immigration counter with minimum 06 month Valid, Machine-Readable passport.

  10. Conclusion

    For GA travel to the Maldives, it’s best to provide a minimum of a 5 days’ notice in order to ensure that permits and all necessary arrangements are in place. While short-notice permits are often possible, last-minute trip approvals is at CAA's discretion.
